TKAM Character Relationships

Prompt: Think about Dill Francis.  Note at least two ways they are alike and two ways they are different. From there, decide what relationship each has with Scout and what effect they have on her. You only need to choose one pair to blog about.

Dill and Francis don't have many similarities between each other but a similarity I found is that both of them search for trouble. Throughout the book we see that Dill has this interest in Boo Radly and always comes up with these random plans to see Boo in person. His plans aren't even good enough and that's why he always ends up getting caught and in trouble. He just looks for trouble. With Francis it's the same thing. Francis likes to provoke Scout. In chapter 9, Francis began to offend Atticus just to get Scout mad. Even thought he knew that was the worst topic he could talk about and that's why Francis got beat up by Scout.

There's many differences between Dill and Francis but the main one is how both of them feel toward Scout. Dill loves Scout, even though they are at a very young age to know about love. Dill and Scout are "engaged" to each other. They talk about their lives together and how when they are older they are going to get married even though a lot of stuff can happen between now and then. Francis hates Scout. Francis is like that one kid who annoys you until you get pissed. He is very annoying and he also doesn't have a creative mind. He just takes what other people say and restates over and over. Francis is just a year older than Scout but it seems like Scout is smarter than him.

Dill's relationship with Scout is through their engagement. Dill loves her a lot, and Scout loves him back. Throughout the book they show that they truly love each other because says in chapter 14 Scout says that life without Dill would be worthless. That shows that she truly loves him and she really likes being around him. With Francis it is different story. Scout hates him in every single way. She hates him because he offended Atticus and called him a "nigger-lover" so, because of that she beat up Francis.

Francis has a negative affect on Scout and Dill has a positive affect on Scout. Francis only wants to annoy her and get her mad. He likes provoking her because he knows that she will begin to fight and when she does he blames her and, she gets in trouble for someone that he started. Francis just likes to get her in trouble. Dill on the other hand only wants to make Scout feel happy. He makes her happy by showing her his affection towards her and kissing her. He doesn't like seeing her sad.
