Poetry Reflection 3/26/14

My Reflection
Prompt:
1- Poetry can be a vital, real part of everyone's life. What place or importance does poetry have in my own life? Does poetry belong to everyone? How do I know?
2- How does the life and experiences of a poet affect the poem he/she creates?

Poetry has importance in my life because some poetry I can relate too. Some of the poetry I read can relate to some life experiences I've had so far. Poetry has importance in my life because some poetry that I read can relate or give me some sort of feeling. Poetry can change the mood of a person, such as if you read a poem about motivation. You may begin to feel more motivated towards yourself. There are a lot of ways of why poetry is important in my life, but these are the top two ways. This is why I think that poetry does has some importance in my own life.

Poetry does belong to everyone. They're more than a thousand poems out there and there is at least one poem each person can relate too. Poetry belongs to everyone because everyone has something that they can relate too or maybe they can write poetry themselves. Maybe the experience that person felt made them write it down on paper. A lot of poets poems are about their own life and experiences. Each person has experienced something and they can probably relate to it through poetry/poems. Poetry can also change the mood of someone. Also some people might read poetry so that they can feel better if they are feeling sad or down. So, I think poetry does belong to everyone.

The life and experiences of a poet can affect the poem he/she creates because maybe their life and or experiences are the reason of why they wrote that poem. Some poets throughout their life have experienced a lot of stuff and they began to write about that in their poems. For example Edger Allan Poe, he had a lot of bad experiences throughout his life and in most of his poems he talks about them. Life experiences can affect a lot to the kind of poems the poet creates. For example, if they have had a really bad experience like a relative died. In their poem they might talk about something dark or related to death. Another example is if the poet had something really good happen that day like they got a gift from a really close friend. In their poem they might talk about how friendship and kindness is really valuable. This is how the life and experiences of a poet can affect the poem he/she creates.

  1. Great Job on your poem!! Although I had to highlight to be able to read the entire poem. You may want to fix that. I really liked your example in your first paragraph about how poetry can change your mood.
